So join us on our journey to net zero.  Help us power change.

What will I do on the programme?

We have several different Consents graduate opportunities across the business with one thing in common: Across the two years of the programme, you’ll gain real hands-on experience, build an invaluable network and develop a unique set of skills which will shape your career. Due to our size and diversity, we can offer you a structured yet challenging development programme where you'll have the support of the Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor to assist you in reaching your full potential. The programme will support your career development into a permanent role with SSE that reflects your experience and passion.

Here's a flavour of some of the exciting initiatives you could be involved in, for each Division.

Transmission (Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen)

Consents & Environment Graduates (Terrestrial and Marine)

We are building a high voltage Network for NetZero across Scotland to facilitate critical renewable energy connections to the Electricity Grid. Not only that, we have developed a sector leading sustainability strategy to help us deliver it in a responsible way. Our Consents & Environment team are central to this, currently assessing and consenting the largest portfolio of national critical infrastructure in Scotland. Come and join us on this exciting journey in either our terrestrial or marine facing role!

We’re investing in our infrastructure assets which are spread far and wide across our licenced area in the North of Scotland & Islands, to accelerate progress towards a net zero world whilst ensuring a safe, resilient, and responsive network.

In this role you’ll be responsible for securing consents for the construction, installation, refurbishment and replacement of underground cables, overhead lines and plant on both public and privately-owned land.

We’ll equip you with skills training and the professional competency you need to become a Land Consents Manager. We’ll enhance your knowledge and experience by giving you the opportunity to work within different departments within SSEN.

This includes roles on our growing pipeline of onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and hydro projects. You will have the opportunity to gain experience working in a multi-disciplinary project team on a wide range of consenting issues, to challenge yourself through dealing first hand with the complexities of consenting these large-scale projects and also play an important role in delivering renewable energy targets in the drive for a net zero carbon future.
