SSE Renewables has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Policy & Public Affairs Manager, who will provide effective and reasoned counsel to key internal stakeholders across the business, and to support the delivery of our strategic ambitions in Germany. You will engage with and influence key stakeholders including German Government officials, parliamentarians, relevant trade associations, competitors, government agencies, and non-governmental organisations.
Your key responsibilities will include:-
- Conducting in-depth research, analysis and insight on key information related to political, governmental and key influencer activities in German, to provide expert policy advice and strategic support to the business. This activity will likely involve leading internal and external stakeholder groups to develop innovative solutions to complex and often ambiguous policy challenges. This will encompass onshore and offshore wind, solar, storage and technologies including Power-2-X.
- Establishing strong business relationships, using your expertise and insight to influence business thinking on key policy issues, what it means for the company strategy, and the approaches for dealing with these.
- Establishing strong external relationships with key stakeholders in Germany including politician and officials at national and local level, trade associations, etc representing SSE Renewables with external audiences at meetings and speaking at engagements
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Corporate Affairs to identify key business issues, ensuring each issue has clear ownership and plans i place to mitigate or address the concern. You'll continually re-assess these plans and proactively anticipate potential future issues that may impact upon our reputation or position.
- As appropriate compile regular reports and insights measuring both the outputs against plans and outcomes against objectives
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have broad experience of the energy sector, and specifically excellent working knowledge of the broader context of the German and EU policy landscape and the main issues and developments that may impact SSERs future operations in Germany.
We'd also love you to have:-
- Experience of, and the ability to achieve business goals through excellence in policy development, communication and influencing of key stakeholders.
- Expert experience in public policy development, stakeholder engagement and/or a similarly strategic role. Ideally with a broad understanding of the media landscape and experience of managing PR and PA consultancies.
- First class interpersonal skills to initiate leads, build, improve and maintain external contacts and establish strong working relationships to seek cooperation from, influence or motivate others to help resolve problems.
- Professional fluency in German and English.
