Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £38,600 - £58,000 + car/ cash allowance + annual bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing

What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Civil Project Engineer to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex projects.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

- Reviewing and approving a variety of civil design proposals and scopes through the development and execution phases of UGC, OHL and Substation projects, including site/route selection, ground investigation specification, earthworks designs, public road upgrade and landscaping for proposed assets.

- Promote best practice within the Civil team, through suggested improvements in specifications, technology options and management of engineering risks.

- Drive decision making and support other projects through peer review of key issues.

- Supervise and direct junior Engineers within their specialist remit, using your technical expertise.

- Drive improvement in early project development by making best use of digital platforms such as Infraworks and civil 3D to facilitate early design development.

- You will also take a key role in managing the performance of consultants and contractors supporting the delivery of our significant portfolio of work, including getting ready for delivering our £2.2 Billion RIIO-T2 plan.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have

- Demonstrable experience in transmission development/design/specification and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.

- An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and the implications of this for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM.

- Effective communication skills are essential, and you should be able to communicate often complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.

- Able to work effectively with key stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships.

- The ideal candidate for this role will be degree qualified in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
