What is the Role?

SSE Energy Solutions delivers projects that are spread across multi utility disciplines and are continuing our rapid growth. In support of this, the Strategy team helps shape the overarching Distributed Energy (DE) strategy. This is continually reviewed & assessed, with the strategy team challenging the business units to ensure deliverables are achieved to deadline and strategic revenue/ EBIT projections are attained.

The Research Analyst reports directly into the Head of Research & Strategic Innovation. It’s an important role where you’ll help identify, shape, define then trial innovation projects that’ll support any gaps in knowledge within the Distributed Energy business. You’ll work closely with the Strategy Analyst to monitor changes in market/ policy/ regulation/ technology and how that’ll impact our strategy. In response to this information, you’ll assess options to refine/ alter our strategic direction before they go through the approval process, keeping an eye out for innovation opportunities which may accelerate growth.

You’ll work collaboratively with the Strategy team and wider DE verticals (such as Distributed Generation and Storage, EV, Heat, Private Electrical Networks, Building Energy Management, Digital Services) to understand their deliverables in relation to the strategy, understand business unit capabilities and the direction of travel within each of these markets – both the business direction market trends.  

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Strong research/ analytical capabilities, looking at and pulling together both internal & external assessments of opportunities, capabilities, risks and at times financial analysis using Excel & Powerpoint.
  • Demonstrate knowledge/ work-experience within the energy/ utilities market on projects or programmes of work in at least one of the following sectors - Distributed Generation and Storage, EV charging, Heating & Cooling Networks, Private Electrical Networks, Building Energy Management, Digital Services.
  • Knowledge of energy systems & markets in the UK
  • Communicate, influence and manage the expectations of a range of internal and external stakeholders, at times making sure technical information is presented accurately and effectively understood by the audience. This could be to support project approvals going through governance checks, support of strategy changes, innovation opportunities, etc..

About our Business

SSE Energy Solutions is the Distributed Energy (DE) and Private Networks business of SSE plc and is one of the fastest growing areas within the SSE Group. It’s responsible for the design, funding, delivery and operation of a range of local energy infrastructure across the UK & Ireland. This infrastructure will comprise of one or more of the four asset pillars supported by DE, specifically: private electrical networks, heat networks, distributed generation and storage, and EV charging.
