What is the Role?
We currently have an opportunity for a Renewables Engineer to join our Civil delivery team. We are responsible for providing quality engineering, maintenance and operational support to the Hydro and Onshore operations of the renewables business.
This role would suit a graduate or a qualified Engineer, who is keen to develop within our business and ultimately play a key role in the planning, supervision through construction and commissioning of significant maintenance works.
Working with an experienced team of engineers ;and technicians based throughout Scotland, you'll assist in ensuring all renewable generation assets are operated and maintained to the high standards expected within SSE. Under supervision from your Lead Engineer, you'll contribute to the development of complex engineering projects that will range from overhaul and refurbishment on a broad range of heavy civils assets to minor civil maintenance works such as road improvements. You'll quickly gain experience working within a fast-moving operational environment and develop your project management skills through taking responsibility for managing less complex projects.
You will be given the opportunity to repair, refurbish and replace large gates and valves, winches, hydraulics, tunnels, pipelines, wind towers and dams. After completion of training, you'll be expected to project manage significant refurbishment works in addition to your core engineering responsibilities.
What do I need?
We are looking for a qualified Engineer, preferably civils or mechanical engineering, with relevant experience in an engineering and/or operational environment and a developing technical skill base.
You'll thrive in a varied engineering environment and would be happy to work towards taking a significant level of responsibility to safely deliver large overhaul and refurbishment projects on time and to budget.
You will need to be a great communicator, be flexible to work across our business unit, capable of working in a fast-moving environment on multiple projects and be happy to train towards the highest safety qualification to operate significant pieces of plant at our power stations such as hydraulic gates, valves and other mechanical items.
Due to the work involved in this role it is essential you are able to work in a variety of environments from height to confined spaces and have some experience with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
Travel to remote operational sites across the UK and Ireland will be expected as part of this role so a full driving licence is essential.
