Salary: £46,319 -  £61,175 depending on experience + car/cash allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission currently has an opportunity for a Protection Field Engineer.  The key responsibilities of this role will be:

  • The testing and commissioning of new protection systems to support delivery of our capital delivery programme equipment on our Transmission network
  • To get involved in all aspects of field protection work, including; Factory and Site Acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, fault finding and repair of protection systems, outage management, contractor liaison and budget adherence
  • Due to the 24/7 nature of our networks, you may be required to take part in an Emergency Standby support rota, and as the job is field based, you may be required to work away from your base location on occasion and assist in a variety of ad hoc activities.
  • What do I need?

    To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Previous experience and technical knowledge of power systems protection, including installation and commissioning of high voltage plant and apparatus up to 400kV, including the application of IEC 61850 protocol. Existing SAP or High Voltage Switching authorisations up to 400kV are highly advantageous, although not essential
  • Sound understanding of reading and interpreting protection single line, schematic and block diagrams
  • Experience of carrying out testing and fault-finding on secondary wiring and auxiliary equipment, including the application of logic and settings files on integrated electronic protection devices with use of automated test set
  • As safety is at the heart of everything we do, you should have a high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines in everything you do, therefore, you will have a working knowledge of the CDM regulations, and experience in preparation of RAMS/safe systems of work. A full, current driving licence is required.
  • You would qualification in a relevant subject to minimum HNC level, and possess excellent organisational and communication skills and be comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.
