The Role

SSE Renewables is driving the transition to a net zero future, developing some of the UK’s most ambitious renewable energy projects. Berwick Bank Offshore Wind Farm will be one of the largest offshore wind developments in the world — generating clean, homegrown energy for millions and setting a new standard in responsible development and collaboration.

As Project Commercial Director, you’ll be a key member of the Berwick Bank project community as well as supporting the wider SSER Commercial team, working closely with the Project Director and Finance Director to guide the project’s commercial success from development through to execution. You’ll empower a talented team of commercial professionals, strengthening governance, optimising value and building trusted partnerships across the project.

This is a rare opportunity to shape one of the UK’s flagship renewable projects — bringing together your commercial expertise, inclusive approach and strategic mindset to deliver meaningful impact for our shareholders, partners and the planet.

You will:

  • Shape and deliver the project’s commercial strategy, ensuring it supports the business case, investment criteria and long-term shareholder value.
  • Empower and support a high-performing team, creating an environment where collaboration, respect and accountability drive exceptional results.
  • Lead and influence complex contract negotiations with supply chain partners and other key stakeholders — including MSAs, crossing agreements and associated frameworks — ensuring agreements deliver value, manage risk and support successful Financial Close.
  • Administer and optimise route-to-market contracts, identifying and delivering value improvement, cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities across the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external partners — including shareholders, lenders and regulatory bodies — providing trusted commercial insight, ensuring strong governance and embedding proactive contract management to protect project integrity.

You have:

  • Extensive experience in the commercial management of large-scale, debt-financed infrastructure or renewable projects, ideally with offshore and international exposure.
  • A track record of building and guiding multidisciplinary teams within complex or matrix organisations, fostering a culture of openness, learning and shared success.
  • Advanced commercial and financial acumen, with expertise in CAPEX/OPEX modelling, contract structures, and revenue mechanisms such as CfDs and CPPAs.
  • Demonstrated experience in joint venture arrangements, MSAs, and crossing agreement negotiations, with the ability to identify value opportunities and manage risk through each project stage.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, able to engage confidently with diverse stakeholders and simplify complex information to support clear decision-making.
