What is the Role?

SSE Energy Customer Solutions (ECS) is expanding its Agile capability. This new role of IT Product Owner in the ECS IT Team will be responsible for IT products to ensure that the underlying IT system capability is in place to support the business value streams. This is an interesting and technology focused role. Your key responsibilities will include:

Working closely with cross functional teams and engaging with the wider SSE Corporate IT functions to ensure the IT capabilities to support the Customer business are identified, designed, built and delivered in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the IT backlog is maintained and prioritised, that EPICs and User Stories are developed and accepted by the IT scrum teams. You will align with the Business Product Owners and the Release Manager (Release Train Engineer) to co-ordinate deliverables and releases to ensure an optimal outcome for the organisation at all times. You will be expected to live agile values and principles to contribute to a happy, effective and efficient working environment. You will to ensure an effective working cadence for the team, understanding, owning and finding a way around any current and future obstacles in a timely manner for resolution. You will be instrumental in ensuring that budgets are adhered to and value achieved. You will also be an active participant in the wider Product Owner Community of Practice in SSE, driving through improvements as we evolve to a faster better delivery organisation.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- Define the IT products in collaboration with key stakeholders and socialise with the team.

- Evolve the IT product roadmap based on customer, product team and business feedback, & linked to business outcomes.

- Work with portfolio governance team to set funding and investment requirements.

- Oversee product priorities, resource requirements, development stages working with leadership to attain further funding as required.

- Anticipating the organisation needs, managing the product backlog and prioritising needs based on value delivered.

- Remove impediments to product progress and assist with work dependencies, risks and issues.

- Determine developments to the IT roadmap based on business strategy changes.

- Secure investment and resource to continue Product development and growth.

- Proactively share knowledge to drive technology learning, understanding and appreciation across the business.

- Ensure that IT/business strategy, policy and standards are adhered to, thus achieving commonality and ease of maintenance.

- Applying lessons learnt process and actively elicit relevant feedback.

What do I need?

You’ll have experience as a Product Owner delivering platform capabilities, where you’ve exemplified and promoted Agile values and principles. The following skills and experience are essential:

- Experience of working in a matrix organisation.

- Ability to provide information in a logical and consistent manner.

- Ability to work in environments that are undergoing change, working in an iterative and adaptive manner.

- Ability to thrive in a challenging environment and develop new skills.

- Experience with having financial responsibilities and ability to demonstrate value from investments.

- Understanding and working experience of agile process and principles.

- Experience with defining and prioritising a portfolio of work.

- Ability to negotiate requirements, timelines and other delivery metrics across product lifecycle.

- Application of the concepts of delivery risks and issues.

- Ability to develop counter measures and contingency plans associated with significant delivery risk.

- Communication and Personal Attributes

   - Articulate with outstanding written, interpersonal and analytical skills.

   - Able to articulate the why at all levels of the organisation

   - Team leader, player and collaborator.

   - Ability to effectively manage conflicting stakeholder needs

   - Resilient, with the ability to work well under pressure.
