About the Role

Base Location: Flexible UK & Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.

Salary: £38,600 - £58,000 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSE's Thermal Engineering & Asset Management team provides Asset Integrity, Technical Assurance and Technical Authority roles across a broad range of Power Plant and Gas Storage Sites balancing risk, cost and performance and is looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer/Rotating Equipment Engineer who will be responsible for Gas Turbine Engineering including:

- Asset Integrity through the corporate governance role and compliance with standards and legislation

- Technical Assurance through delivering robust Engineering solutions for Rotating Plant high consequent assets and associated outage coordination activities

- Technical Authority for large capital thermal new build projects; the role will require key interaction with design, quality and construction activities

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Degree qualified engineer or equivalent and working towards Chartered Engineer status within a professional institution

- Experienced in Gas Turbine overhauls, design, and/or operation

- A working knowledge of the legislation, design codes and industry good practice for rotating plant machinery

- Be familiar with construction activities, process and have experience with Turbine outages

- Experience with the development of technical and engineering solutions to add value and mitigate risks

For this role you must have a full, current driving license

About our Business

In SSE Thermal, we're responsible for SSE's flexible generation, energy-from-waste and energy storage activities, with over 600 direct employees across the UK and Ireland. We are currently constructing the 840MW Keadby 2 CCGT in North Lincolnshire, which is expected to become the cleanest and most efficient gas-fired power station in Europe when completed in 2022. As part of our commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions, we have a core focus on decarbonising our fleet through carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen technology. We are actively developing projects in the Humber and Scotland, which could become the UK's first CCS-equipped power stations, while also exploring exciting opportunities in low-carbon hydrogen production, generation and storage.
