We have islands off the West and North Coast of Scotland that are supplied by submarine cables. These islands have embedded Diesel Power Stations which acts as an emergency supply when faults occur.  It is within our Power Station at Stornoway, Isle of Lewis that an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Fitter.

  • You’ll also be expected to undertake the duties of a "unit operator" when the station is requested to generate.
  • As part of the company ethos you may be asked to carry out duties out with your core skills but within your capabilities for the Embedded Generation Team, therefore a degree of flexibility is required.
  • Although your main base will be Kirkwall Power Station, there may be a requirement to travel to other areas within the Embedded Generation Group as and when work requires, this includes our Power Stations in Shetland, Lewis, South Uist, Barra, Tiree and Islay.

What do I need?

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have:

  • Mechanical Apprenticeship, and have good knowledge of diesel engines and associated auxiliary plant.
  • You’ll be competent at fault diagnosis with an ability to recognise plant and system issues.
  • You’ll have an excellent safety record, and a safety focused mind-set in everything you do.
