What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission are currently recruiting for a number of highly motivated and experienced Marine Consents Manager to support the delivery of Major, large-scale Transmission infrastructure. You will work on iconic, innovative projects directly facilitating bulk renewable power transfer across the UK.

We are also interested in hearing from individuals with a strong background and specialist knowledge of benthic habitats and mega fauna and their specific sensitivity to cable installation, and subsequent recovery. This will be to support the wider marine consenting team.

You will join a multi-award winning team recognised for our sector leading planning and sustainability initiatives (RTPI In-house planning team of the year – Finalist, IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards – Biodiversity & Environmental Net Gain – Winner). Working under a Lead Marine Consents Manger, there will be a high level of autonomy for your projects with the benefit of experienced support and guidance where required.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

Identifying and securing statutory marine consents and sea-bed agreements for some of the largest marine transmission projects in the UK

Managing the MEA or EIA process to support consent applications, including management of the marine consents budget

Monitor and control compliance with these consents, developing strong working relationships with contractors, regulators and external stakeholders

Negotiate lease options and crossing agreements with other marine users and marine landowners, operating within agreed parameters and timescales to facilitate delivery and minimise project risk. 

Work with other stakeholders including fisheries and Nature conservation bodies

The roles, subject to experience and capability, will require periodic offshore work, supporting survey and installation activities, as such the candidate will be willing to obtaining an ENG1 medical and to attend suitable offshore survival training such as BOSIET.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

Demonstrable experience of the development, refinement, consenting and installation of subsea cable infrastructure, i.e. power and telecoms cables.

Knowledge of cable installation, impact assessment and management of marine Environmental Assessments.

Knowledge and experience using GIS to integrate and understanding marine spatial data  and the ability to interpret subsea survey data in relation to the consenting process (e.g. MBES, SSS and imagery)

Experience in marine spatial planning and where possible cable route selection with strong knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and regulations.

Degree qualified or have the equivalent experience (Marine resource management or environmental planning preferable) in a relevant industry where you have managed the interaction between business and regulatory regimes.

You must be a clear, effective communicator who has a focus on the customer, commercial drivers and delivery.

A willingness to contribute, adapt, and learn within a busy, fast moving team, dealing with challenges and opportunities across an extensive workload is critical.  Innovation and new ideas are welcomed where they can add value and improve the consenting approach,
