SSE has big ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Following our commitment to invest £12.5 billion in low carbon projects over the next 5 years, our SSE Renewables (SSER) business continues to be at the forefront of our growth plans, and our ambition to build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.  We are proud to be playing a critical role in the net zero transition, as we aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and grow renewable energy output five-fold to over 50TWh over the next 10 years.

Base Location: Glasgow or Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our c350 offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.

Salary: Up to £69,100 depending on experience + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent Contract | Full Time | Flexible First options available

What is the role?

Our Capital Projects teams are responsible for developing and building our Renewables Assets, both onshore and offshore with a focus on maximising the value of our current pipelines, whilst pursuing new markets.

SSE Renewables, along with partners Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation (Marubeni) and Danish fund management company Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have won rights in the competitive ScotWind leasing round to develop what will become one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind farms off the east coast of Scotland. Further information can be found here:

We are looking to recruit a Lead Consent Manager, to help deliver the necessary onshore consents to support our offshore wind farm pipeline. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dedicated consents team, taking forward our ScotWind offshore windfarm and other projects in our pipeline.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about addressing the climate change emergency and wants to make a difference.

By joining SSE Renewables, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that will help Scotland achieve our ambitious climate change targets.

As a Lead Consents Manager:

  • You will lead and deliver necessary onshore consents and licences to enable development activities to take place, manage and engage with key stakeholders, consent discharge as well as consent compliance.
  • You will work as part of the wider SSE Renewables development team, with the potential to work across one of the largest development portfolios of offshore and onshore wind projects in the UK and Ireland with sites at a variety of different stages of development. This will provide opportunity to engage in strategic discussions to facilitate deliverables on ScotWind, but also across SSE Renewables’ development portfolio.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • We are looking for a dynamic and delivery focused person who will preferably have experience in consenting the onshore infrastructure required for offshore renewables, but other sectors will be considered. The successful candidate should have demonstrable experience and understanding of the terrestrial planning system in the UK and coordination of consultants delivering Environmental Impact Assessments in support of the consent submission.
  • It is essential that you can work effectively both independently, and as part of the ScotWind and wider SSE Renewables team, managing internal and external resources and supporting and mentoring junior team members, deputising for senior colleagues and engaging in strategic discussions on complex technical and environmental issues.
  • You will be able to provide consenting advice to internal development teams on consenting strategy and manage consenting risks and opportunities on projects.
  • Your personality should be seen in your ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders including regulators, statutory and non-statutory advisors, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • A commercial approach to all work is expected, challenging colleagues, stakeholders and contractors to manage risk, achieve viable solutions to consenting issues and support overall project objectives.
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of project governance around approvals and programme and financial management procedures will be required, as will an innovative approach when addressing consenting issues and their resolution.
