Base Location: Flexible UK  We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK.

In recognition of the technology’s importance in SSE’s transition to a net carbon zero future the Company has recently established a Solar and Battery Business.  With a substantial portfolio of large, utility scale projects and an established pipeline of new opportunities the Solar and Battery business is looking to grow at pace, supported by very significant long term investment plans.  We are now seeking to recruit talented and experienced Land Specialists to join our dedicated team and to help with the delivery of these plans.  

The Role:

  • Working within the Land Team you will manage the delivery and negotiate the terms of options, leases, purchases and agreements for land, wayleaves, easements, and highways permissions to enable the delivery of large, complex solar and battery energy storage projects.
  • As an expert in your field, you will support the acquisitions and project delivery teams, who have overall responsibility for the development and delivery of our projects at differing stages in their life cycle.
  • You will be required to manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast paced and demanding environment.
  • You will represent the company, agreeing commercial and legal terms with landowners and land agents.
  • You will be working at speed and to agreed timescales.
  • You will specify scope of works and appoint and manage external specialist consultants.

    For this role we would love you to have:

  • Likely to be degree qualified, you will be working toward or be a recently qualified member of RICS.
  • Prior experience of land management across both rural and commercial sectors.
  • You will have a good working knowledge of relevant Landlord and Tenant legislation.
  • You will be an experienced negotiator of leases, options, land acquisition, easements and wayleaves.
  • You will have previous planning and development experience of projects involving multiple land ownership.
  • Experience in the renewables sector is preferred.
  • You will be resilient and enjoy working at pace and have the confidence, capability and independence to deliver the required outcomes.
  • You will have a can-do attitude and be expected to identify land and planning related risks and develop proposals to mitigate them to secure deliverable projects.
  • You will self-sufficient but enjoy working and delivering within a team environment.
