What is the Role?

To ensure the continued success of the business and ensure we continue to deliver the best possible service to our customer, we have an exciting and rare opportunity for two Field Unit Engineers to join the Inspection and Maintenance Team.

1. Working across the Thames Valley Region, your main responsibilities and key area of focus will be, the management of our fluid filled cables and all our protections schemes up to and including 132kV.
2. You will be required to design and implement a robust maintenance programme to ensure we are fully compliant in delivering our outputs, whilst reacting to faults and defects to ensure the network is fully operational.
3. The role will incorporate working on plant and apparatus up to and including 132kV and ensuring we have the correct development and training plans are in place to support the development of our young engineers and fitters.

4. You will be responsible for all operational and safety duties ensuring plant and apparatus are installed and maintained in accordance with SSEN standards whilst supporting our maintenance teams.  There will be a component of project delivery/management including the use of reporting systems

5. SSE is a 24/7, 365 day business and you will be expected to be available on a rota basis and available to respond quickly to faults outside of normal working hours. As such any candidate must be within reasonable distance of the Thames Valley area. If you do not currently live within this area, please specify on your application, if successful, your plans to ensure you meet with this criteria.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

1. At least HNC level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering discipline, ideally Electrical. 
2. Further to this, SAP qualification (or working towards this) at 132kv would be highly advantageous; as would a qualification in safety.
3. Given the technical nature of the role, it is essential that you have demonstrable experience in a similar role, performing duties and responsibilities as identified above.
4. You must be self-disciplined with excellent organisational skills, capable of working on your own initiative and to deadlines within a high-pressure environment.
5. It is an essential requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.
