Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth, Aberdeen, Reading

Salary: £60,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

About the Role

This role sits within Energy Portfolio Management, which provide Route to Market and Risk Management services to SSE's Thermal, Renewable and Business Energy divisions. The Data Scientist role will work within the Advanced Analytics team which is focussed on building a modern data platform in Microsoft Azure and sophisticated analytical solutions using Machine Learning and AI. The bulk of the data scientist's work will be developing advanced models and processes to aid forecasting and Trading decision support. Working with our business and IT teams, the Advanced Analytics teams goals are to increase business value by delivering sophisticated solutions effectively into production for our stakeholders (for example traders, business/data analysts, senior management).

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Work in agile teams delivering proof of concepts directly with the business.
  • Build state of the art machine learning models and data visualizations.
  • Interpret and effectively communicate insights to the business and senior executives.
  • Provide direction and guidance to more junior members of the team.
  • Take ownership of domain areas or methodologies for the data science team.
  • Support the ongoing development of the Advanced Analytics team's capabilities and strategy.

 What do I need?

To be considered you will need to have:

  • Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or related quantitative discipline.
  • Master's degree or PhD in a related subject such as Data Science or Artificial Intelligence, or equivalent knowledge developed through training or professional experience.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (Pandas, Numpy, PySpark, Jupyter, etc...)
  • Azure or similar cloud experience including Azure ML Services or similar, Azure Data Factory, DataBricks
  • Solid experience applying data science / machine learning / AI to solve business problems.
  • Experience working with state of the art data science, modelling & visualization techniques
  • Experience working with complex datasets
  • Experience managing senior stakeholders and executive communication.
  • Broad and deep knowledge in data science, machine learning & artificial intelligence.
