We're proud to be a Principal Partner for COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, and are leading the way to provide the energy needed now, while building a better world of energy for tomorrow.

To reach net zero by 2050, we're looking for people who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

So join us on our journey to net zero. Help us power change.

Base Location: Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow or Perth

Salary: £41,307 - 54,556 + car allowance  + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working options available

What is the Role?

As our Electrical Networks Designer/Electrical Engineer, you'll primarily be responsible for completing design work, from an initial high-level scope through to detailed installation/costing design, using a suite of engineering standards.  Project designs relate to underground cable, overhead line and substation situations. The project portfolio includes network refurbishment, network reinforcement, network automation, plant replacement and various network alteration schemes. Based on a business need, you may also work on other work streams as required.

Your design will require you to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate the health and safety as required in the projects pre-construction phase.  This includes line route designs, stage by stage plans, plant and equipment specifications, tendering and tender evaluation. In this role you will:

- Ensure the network is constructed robustly, cost effectively and to engineering standards

- Eliminate health, safety and financial risks during the assets lifecycle

- Liaise with customers, land agents, local authorities and SSE colleagues

What do I need?

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous experience in applying the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 to technically complex projects is essential. In addition, knowledge of electrical network modelling and the NRSWA code of practice would be advantageous, although training will be provided.

You'll need to be capable of building lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.  As a result of this you will have first class communication skills, both verbal and written.  You'll have strong negotiation and influencing skills, being able to convey your position in a clear and concise manner.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- At least an HNC level qualification within a relevant subject

- Previous experience in the design and construction of electrical distribution networks up to 33KV

- Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
