Base Location: Stornoway Isle of Lewis: Battery Point & Arnish Power Stations
Salary: £27,991 - £35, 546 (depending on skills and experience) + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
Pay Progression and training opportunities could see the successful candidate progress to SSE5 then SSE6, which has a current maximum salary of £44,700
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time, 37 hours per week

SSE Power Distribution, part of the SSE group, owns and operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, comprising some 123,000 substations and 127,000km of overhead lines and underground cables, distributing electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses in the North of Scotland and Southern England.

SSE Power Distribution is part of the SSE group which owns and operates two electricity distribution networks and one transmission network, comprising of some 123,000 substations and 127,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines and delivers power to 30% of the UK's landmass, serving 3.5 Million customers.
We have islands off the West and North Coast of Scotland that are supplied by submarine cables. These islands have an embedded Diesel Power Station which acts as an emergency supply when faults occur. It is within our Power Stations at Battery Point and Arnish in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis that an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Fitter.
Although your main base will be Stornoway, the Embedded Generation group are also responsible for the maintenance of other island power stations therefore there may be a requirement to travel infrequently to others located in the Western Isles, Inner Hebrides and Northern Isles. A full driving licence is essential.
What do I need?
As an Electrical Fitter you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, undertaking fault finding and repairs on the fixed installations of the power stations, as well as planning and organising maintenance work and assisting with general day to day tasks within the stations, whilst they are operational.
You'll also be part of the team that operate the stations and participate in a standby rota as required. Full training will be provided for this.
As part of the company ethos you may be asked to carry out duties out with your main core skills but within your capabilities, therefore a degree of flexibility is required.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to call on your skills associated with maintenance of electrical plant and systems, electrical installation and testing. You will have experience of working with single and three phase systems including plant such as motors and pumps as well as control and instrumentation systems.
Experience of working with generation station assets and HV systems would be an advantage. Good team working skills are considered essential.
Successful candidates would also be required to show a positive attitude towards health and safety in the workplace.
Knowledge and experience of mechanical systems would be an advantage, however not considered essential for the role.
