Base Location: Flexible UK | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around UK.

Salary: Up to £69,100 depending on experience + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role? 

 

Our Offshore Engineering Team are playing a key role in the construction of the world’s largest offshore wind farm, situated off the East coast of England, as well as construction of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm. We are also supporting development of several major offshore wind farm projects across the UK, Ireland and Europe as well as opportunities in Asia Pacific and USA.

SSE Renewables Offshore Engineering have opportunities within our Electrical Engineering Team. We are looking for Electrical Engineers at Engineer and Senior Engineer levels to lead and coordinate all electrical engineering deliverables across development and construction projects within the Offshore Renewables business.  

The scope of work covers the whole project lifecycle and includes offshore wind farm electrical system design and operation, onshore and offshore substations, export cable systems, inter-array cable systems, electrical power system studies, wind turbine electrical systems and grid code compliance. If you have experience in one or more of these areas, we are extremely keen to hear from you. 

Some of your main responsibilities will include:

  • Front-end electrical engineering design works and development of electrical contract documentation including management and preparation of substation, turbine, cable systems and electrical balance of plant contracts
  • Coordinating project engineering works and ensuring correct technical specifications are prepared and applied to projects
  • Writing, reviewing and updating technical specifications
  • Reviewing external contractor’s and consultant’s specifications and documentation for the procurement of long lead plant items and contracts to ensure SSE requirements are achieved.
  • Reviewing and interpretating power systems studies against relevant grid code requirements to ensure all projects are designed and executed demonstrating and proving full compliance

What do I need? 

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

 

  • Engineering Chartership and a member of the Engineering Council or working towards this goal.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience of electricity generation including technical knowledge of power systems and their operation, preferably within renewable and wind power.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate engineering legislation and industry good practice.
  • Excellent report writing skills and an understanding of effective organisation capabilities to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales. You will have a strong understanding of commercial awareness in order to understand implications of engineering activities and decisions.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to deliver the highest quality of work within the necessary timescales along with strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at various managerial levels within the business where you will be part of a large electrical engineering team within the SSE Renewables Offshore business.

Although flexible on base location, you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, sometimes to remote locations. A full UK driving license is essential.
