About the Role

Base Location: Flexible UK & Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time 

The Business Development Manager will be a key role specifically in the UK, employed to drive forward our business relationships and solutions primarily into the Manufacturing, Pharma, Agri-food and other industrial markets as well as supporting our ventures into local government contracts.

Your primary focus will be on building a strong qualified pipeline and executing to close sales across multiple targets, initially with solar, private networks and EV related pursuits. Experience in these markets and with a track record in solution selling these propositions is a key requirement.

- Extensive experience in the energy sector developing behind the meter solutions and operating in one or several key industrial & commercial markets. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong track record in the Datacentre market.

- Experience of solution / consultative selling and building bespoke value propositions with customers across a complex range of technology and solutions.

- Experience communicating complicated projects internally to gain approval through governance processes.

- Experience resource planning across a complex project to fully understand potential cost of project.

- Experience of building sales strategies and client engagement plans to maximise value, priorities and delivery against set targets.

What do I need?

In order to succeed in this role, we are looking for a self-starter able to drive and foster enduring relationships and build a quality pipeline. Other key characteristics and experience include:

- Ability to adapt to changing market needs and draw out customer requirements.

- Proven ability to communicate and influence across a range of stakeholder groups and levels of seniority as well as manage an internal virtual team, including senior stakeholders and external partners.

- Inquisitive and able to challenge the ‘status quo’ and be creative in finding value add solutions or contract approaches.

- Excellent communication skills in all forms, team player and inspiring team ethic around you.

- Strong commercial intuition – makes good commercial decisions naturally.
