What is the Role?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified accountant to join the SHE Transmission Commercial Finance team. This is a challenging but fulfilling role which requires responsibility for providing financial and technical support within the SSE Networks (SSEN) division as our Transmission and Distribution business navigate through the next phase of their regulatory price controls.

The successful candidate will undertake a varied role which includes the preparation of statutory financial statements, liaising with various internal and external stakeholders and supporting the SHE Transmission finance team through the SSE Group’s transition of change. The role requires dedication to developing an understanding of our Regulated Businesses including the role of the Regulator and current price control mechanisms. Equipped with this knowledge, the role will be able to support decision making and technical accounting decisions specific to our companies. 

  • Preparing the financial statements for the Distribution and Transmission statutory entities;
  • Supporting work on various regulatory reporting requirements mandated by the Regulator and following the appropriate data assurance process working closely with Regulation colleagues on Regulatory Finance matters;
  • Taking a lead in preparation for and ensuring smooth completion of the external audit process at various points during the financial year, liaising with external auditors as well as internal finance teams across the SSE Group;
  • Lead the the Transmission tariff setting process and industry charging matters with the opportunity to take on wider commercial responsibilities within the Transmission business;
  • Implementation and strengthening of financial controls and procedures including improvements to statutory and regulatory reporting processes, taking responsibility for ensuring a strong commitment to good governance and accountability;
  • Supporting the wider management accounting team with technical accounting matters.


What do I need?


To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Fully qualified accountant, would suit both a newly qualified or experienced accountant with evidence of continuing professional development;
  • Financial controls and process experience (SOX experience preferred);
  • Pro-active with excellent organisational skills and willingness to undertake a varied and challenging role, using initiative to enhance financial reporting processes;
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work constructively to tight timescales, delivering to a continuously high standard, often undertaking tasks beyond your ‘comfort zone’;
  • Comfortable reviewing finance related elements of legal/regulatory documentation combined with a high level of financial and commercial acumen.
