Our Smart Buildings business helps achieve optimised working environments leading to reductions in buildings energy consumption through the installation and maintenance of a variety of building control technologies including Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS). 

Working alongside our colleagues we provide some of the most critical building and energy generation services required in a Zero Carbon world – renewable energy generation – including solar PV and battery storage solutions, heat networks, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

What is the Role? 

This role is key to leading our business growth plans in the North West for 2022 and beyond. You’ll have the opportunity to work with senior leadership colleagues and to showcase your commercial acumen at director level; with excellent progression opportunities should you desire to further your career within SSE.

You’ll be leading our Smart Buildings team of engineers and sales people in the North West.

Reporting to the Smart Buildings Business Director, you’ll be responsible for the development and execution of the North West business plan, including financial performance and all aspects of operational delivery. You’ll lead an engineering team working with you to achieve planned objectives and budgets focused on both business and customer needs; and lead a local sales team to grow market share within the new build construction market; and manage a diverse existing customer base in and around the region.

With budget responsibility you’ll forge strong relationships which will ensure commercial and financial compliance; confident the business unit objectives you set are clear and engaging at all levels you’ll regularly monitor and make improvements to maximise efficiencies. Your passion for the role will mean you have a strong feel for activity in the market place ensuring competitor and market differentiation which will make for informed decision making.

What do I need?

Leadership skills are paramount to your success as it’s essential that your stakeholders, up to and including the Senior Management team, are fully supportive of your operational objectives, plans and achievements and that a collaborative approach to meeting business challenges is forged. Performance Management reviews will be required with your direct reports to ensure objectives are clearly set, skill gaps identified and development plans established and reviewed.

You’ll bring a solid operational background working at a Senior Management level and as such will have experience, leading projects and support engineering teams within the construction industry, preferably within the BEMS Sector. You’ll demonstrate a strong commercial acumen and be comfortable presenting findings through accurate forecasting and reporting. You should be an inspiration to others, setting out clear direction, developing innovative plans and identifying opportunities for improvement.

As you’ll be traveling to different sites its essential that you hold a full driving licence.
