What is the Role?
The SSE Digital Services team is currently expanding its portfolio of services by moving into Energy-as-a-Service – we’re targeting rapid growth in this part of the business, and beginning a transformation process focusing on local, smart energy solutions that encompass energy assets such as generation and storage, load and control systems such as Virtual Power Plants (VPP) and smart grid (generation, storage and load are automatically controlled by a platform for trading/balancing purposes).
The Business Development Manager (BDM) role is an opportunity to position SSE as a provider of choice in this field. Our new platform, SSE Enhance, is a combined Virtual Power Plant and Smart Grid platform that includes aggregation, trading and balancing capabilities that will form a core part of our Energy-as-a-Service proposition. You’ll be responsible for leading the business development of this proposition with an initial focus on securing contracts for flexibility trading (VPP) services with assets owners and developers across the UK.
The role will work closely with other business development resources driving wider energy system opportunities, liaising with EPM (our trading team) and Project Development Managers (PDM’s) who develop the specific projects that underpins these.
The BDM would generate initial flexibility trading leads and act as the main client interface throughout any engagement. Ownership of specific opportunities would pass to the PDM’s through the proposition/bid phase and the PDMs would lead contract negotiations to contract close and procurement.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role you’ll need:
- Experienced business developer within energy flexibility services, with an understanding of VPP and/ or Demand-Side-Response (DSR) projects
- An understanding of flexibility markets including UK energy trading and balancing markets
- An understanding of commercial structures within Distributed Energy and local integrated energy systems
- Comfortable calculating commercial opportunity (and risk), identifying, on-boarding and working with partners to develop pipeline opportunities through analysis and interpretation of complex information
