About the Role
As an Asset Integrity Engineer, you will provide embedded focused engineering support to the operational offshore wind portfolio, ensuring subsea & substructure assets are managed safely and effectively. As a subject matter expert, you will specify routine maintenance activities, asset health parameters and lead on necessary defect resolution activities, ensuring safety and quality of all works. As part of a diverse team, you will be responsible for long term asset integrity, managing assets to optimise performance and exploring opportunities for life extension activities.
Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Lowestoft, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

There are 2 roles which will cover:
- Supporting the development and implementation of SSE Renewables' offshore portfolio-wide programme for asset integrity management, including monitoring, inspection, repair and life extension works.
- Implement a data management strategy incorporating known risks and proportionate technical responses. Contribute to ongoing digital twin development works – identifying opportunities to digitise and enhance integrity management processes.
- Contribute to input into the design delivery process, ensuring known risk factors are communicated and considered as part of the development of new projects.
Structural Focus
- Act as structural focal point for ongoing foundation asset integrity works managing inputs to existing structural integrity safety cases. Lead the design and review of inspection and non-destructive testing campaigns, which support ongoing substructure risk management functions.
- Specify and manage requirements for remote monitoring for wind turbine substructures, identifying key risk factors limiting asset life and determining methods of mitigation. Support the management and maintenance of current systems and owning the strategy for optimal system deployment on future developments.
- Ownership of cathodic protection system for foundations, including subsea corrosion monitoring programmes and consideration of the through-life impact on asset life.
- Lead on specification of coatings and corrosion protection systems for current and future sites, determining optimal response to ensure assets achieve planned life.
Subsea Focus
- Act as technical lead on subsea cable management including pre-emptive inspection, and monitoring, reactive call-off contracts, maintenance and risk management, spares provision and marine license interactions. Own and implement a management strategy incorporating known risks and proportionate technical responses.
- Lead on seabed monitoring and survey activities, considering the impact on WTG substructures, scour protection and other seabed features. Deliver bathymetric data as a pre-requisite to major corrective works and vessel mobilisations.
- Develop the subsea inspection supply chain with a view to enhancing data quality and reducing costs where possible. Innovate to reduce personnel risk and environmental impact of all works, aligning with existing site logistics where practicable.
- Collaborate with the Environmental team on liaison with fisheries, legislators and other parties on risk factors to other marine stakeholders, such as cable de-burial.
What do I need?
The successful candidates will have:
- Previous experience within an offshore or renewables generation industry would be an advantage, although not essential. You'll be qualified to Degree (or equivalent) level in a relevant engineering discipline and be working towards or have achieved Chartered status. As the position requires knowledge and experience gained within industry, consideration will be given to suitably experienced individuals.
- A good understanding of maintenance requirements for large plant infrastructure and the importance of a planned and coordinated maintenance strategy.
- Knowledge and practical experience of working within a controlled safety environment together with a working experience of management projects under established safe systems of work, i.e. HV Operational Safety Rules or equivalent.
- A demonstrable background with analytical, engineering and project management skills would be advantageous. Experience using CAD, GIS and other digital data mapping software would also be advantageous.
You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of offshore wind operations and maintenance works, with the ability to audit and observe both on and offshore working parties and act as an SSE safety representative ensuring that key organisational objectives are met.
