About the Department
Operations are responsible for keeping the lights on; we are at the front line on the Network. If we find a fault, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible. We work in all hours, and through all weathers, ensuring our customers are never without power.
What is the Role?
We have a fantastic opportunity for a 33kV SAP Electrical Fitter to join our in-house construction team working across all southern regions. In this role you’ll be an essential member of our team who are responsible for constructing electrical substation equipment on the electricity network up to 132 kV. You will work with the fitting teams to complete asset replacement in our substations at 33+132kV.
You’ll also be required to plan and co-ordinate outages and write switching schedules and raise PSI’s. You will switch out the network and issue safety documents as required within your authorisation level (33kV SAP minimum).
You’ll act as an ambassador for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks when interacting with external and internal customers, including National Grid and small scale power stations, to deliver world class customer service and protect the SSE brand. Investigating alternative ways of working to increase safety, reduce cost and drive efficiency, you’ll encourage others to do so as well thereby promoting a culture of innovation. Safety is a key priority at SSE and throughout everything you do you will adhere to safety policies and procedures.
What Do I Need?
With detailed knowledge of the electrical distribution network and experience of working with apparatus and plant within primary and grid substations, you’ll ideally be experienced in 132kV networks but must possess valid SSEN operational authorisation up to 33kV SAP.
You will need to have a high regard for safety with strong customer service skills. Excellent communication skills are essential to this role as we deal with customer related issues face to face daily, and good service allows us to achieve our broader measure requirements and targets. A clean driving licence and flexible approach to working hours and work location is a must.
